Catalyst by Candice D. Iloh

Catalyst is the first poetry release by spoken word artist and writer Candice Iloh. Compiled of works written over a three year time span, Catalyst is a compilation of experiences and personal changes that have occurred throughout the first four years of college including her first performance piece about the pangs of regret and depression and taking personal responsibility.

Candice D. Iloh was born August 10, 1987 in San Antonio, TX. She was raised by her father for a majority of her childhood as an only child until the age of 15 when he was remarried. At the age of 16, Iloh began to explore creative writing and the arts to channel thoughts and convictions derived from a childhood that lacked a strong motherly presence but was heavy in a strict Nigerian fatherly background of Christian morals.

Iloh enrolled in Howard University August of 2005 where she began the connect with her true identity, as many encounter when they enter college. However, Iloh's transformation took a turn that clung to her core of Christian principles but dealt away with religious esthetic and began to strive toward an anti-taboo mentality. Iloh discovered the power and liberation that was birthed through honesty and acceptance that was to unfold throughout her collegiate experience.

Catalyst is a culmination of poetry written by Candice Iloh that draws from battles with anxiety and depression, first loves, exploration of independent identity, and hard truths about family, religion, and life as a young woman whose change occurred while everyone was watching.
