Fairy Tales Don't Exist
Princess Therapy
Internal wounds will still be there
Once your white dress is zipped, buttoned, snapped and tied,
Guests, filet mignon, chicken, fish, can't fix psychological damage
Nor replace a father’s presence,
Eloquently dressed personalities resemble normal
But eventually masks come off,
Make-up artist can't hide trust issues with earth tones & gold hues,
A false sensibility about reality, you play pretend
Agreeing to love him forever or till death do you part
Not sure how to do it but
Cinderella did it,
Bell did it,
Princess Jasmine,
Ariel and Tiana did it,
Rapunzel,
You should be no different
The pomp & circumstance matter more than the marriage?
More than rectifying past baggage you're
Ready to carry it to the altar,
More important than becoming a whole person to form one union
You arrive half full with high expectations of him
8 brides maids can't make a step father who whipped you with his tongue & cut you with his eyes vanish ,
A four tier red velvet cake won't block the pain from
Boyfriends who played fly fishing with your heart,
Throwing it back at their convenience or when they got tired,
A hummer limo won't get rid of a baby sister who knows your biological father better than you because,
Fairy tales don't exist,
A frog is only a frog
Kiss it & get warts
A man is a man, not a myth,
Living in cartoon culture drowning at the altar
Waiting for a ring & a life raft
From a man who doesn't know you need to be saved,
In the land of make believe holding
Divorce papers after the honeymoon,
Unconditionally love you
Ugly emotional disabilities
Wrestle the past for a grip on the present,
Forgive the memories painted on your skull
Throw away fairytale crutches
And finally
Walk straight.
REVIEWS
“A. Lyric fervently demands that her readers reclaim their thrones through introspection and self- reparation before seeking a fairy tale life. Her honest, unapologetic poetic prowess asks that we take a candid look into our mirrors and find beauty in our identity, resolutions to our past, and love and purpose in our daily lives. She is the manifestation of a present day queen who is staunchly creating her own happily ever after.”

“Imagine a never ending blanket that wraps you up with reality, truth, and beauty. Fairy Tales Don’t Exist by A. Lyric is a collection of written life, with poems like “Time Stand Still”; “feedings were our connection, now she’s eating with utensils…” “as her gums prepare for white fences.” A. Lyric relishes in the moments of a mother’s fight to hold on while letting go of her daughter’s baby steps. As you fumble playfully through this blanket you will recognize the need to remember from poems like “Sandy Hook” and “Nicotine” and a hilarious way to pay homage to a particular body part in “If She Could Speak.” There is no doubt indeed that you will become fulfilled after reading Fairy Tales Don’t Exist.

"Sweet 'n' savory mouth watering foods, Southern sun sweat, muddy magical childhood memories of unforgettable family and present day maneuverings in the forever awkward growing up world-- a beautiful, unapologetic Spirit Song stirred up in A. Lyric's belly with fierce femininity, raw relentlessness, honey drippin' sensuality and fearless fire! The blood of her pen scribes words and rhythms of truth, testimony, laughter, loss, surrender, transformation, transcendence and love, leaving your soul hollering with joy @ the top of YOUR lungs!"
