The Werdsman is the stage name for poet David Lewis, who resides in the Elmont section of Long Island in New York City. The name The Werdsman means the "EXTRAORDINARY WORDS OF MAN".

Born and raised in Brooklyn , David expresses himself through the art of poetry, dance and various paintings. David came up with the stage name WERDSMAN, representing the extraordinary man he is with his words. For the past eleven years he has been referred to as "Werds" in the spoken word circuit. He has performed at many establishments in the tri state area. The venues ranged from Nuyorican, Urban Juke Joint, African Poetry Theatre, Brooklyn Exposure and Mocha Lounge just to name a few.

Werds has hosted many spoken word events and fund raisers such as Parle Pou Ayiti (Words for Haiti) in Philadelphia and in Brooklyn to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake and the Hip hop poetry show to raise money for non profit organizations for Sisters on the Rise. He also performed and spoke to children in various High Schools on being entrepreneurs. David's continuous involvement in spoken word has led him to numerous accolades including several publications, including the publication of his first book and CD appropriately titled "Poetry Don't Pay the Bills"; this poetry chronicle signifies the struggles, triumphs and aspirations of his life. David now has his own Open Mic series entitled “Extraordinary Words” produced by his company Werds of Art Productions. His innovations and motivation has led us to why we are here today. The release of his second book and CD entitled “Intellectual Ignorance”. This new accomplishment represents two parts of his brain “the intellectual and the ignorance” Each piece takes on several concepts. With every passing day, he proves to the world why the "E" in Werdsman means "Extraordinary is far from Ordinary...
