Henry Duncan: How is My Mind Over Time different from your first book Liveation: Still Alive
Jimmy L. Simmons: My Mind Over Time is just a little more in touch with my feelings about my life and what’s going on in the
HD: What feedback did you receive after releasing Liveation:Still Alive?
JS: Family and friends and people all around showed me mad love.
HD: You dedicated your book to your family and some of your poems in both books deal with the concept of family. How important is family to you as it relates to poetry?
JS: Family is very important to me. All my family from blood. To my family I adopted from love.
HD: In your poem Dog Fight you write about three dogs fighting within you; the caged dog, the free dog and the host dog. What do these dogs represent and which one do you think will win?
JS: The caged dog is quiet and always taking care of business. The free dog is out spoken and loves to party and have fun. The host dog is the father of both dogs, He is really in control, He is the dog that I know will win.
JS: Writing is how I express myself from my pass my now and my future.
HD: Are there any other projects in the works?
JS: Yes.

Henry Duncan: Who is Jimmy Simmons? Jimmy L. Simmons: Writing gives me away to sing about life.
HD: You have a lot of support from your family friends. What made you want to publish your poems? JS: A lot of people will understand what I’m talking about and will relate to my poems.
HD: You work for a organization called Martha's Table. What is Martha's table and how has working there effected you?
JS: We at Martha’s Table deal with homelessness an hunger. We also deal with children from age three months in our day care to twenty one years of age in our teen program. I have a lot of i
HD: Liveation is a word you invented. What does it mean and why did you choose it for your title?
JS: LIVEATION means to live your life as full as you can; never doubt yourself.
HD: Liveation: Still Alive is your first chapbook. What do you expect to achieve with this project?
JS: Liveation is just the first of many to come. I expect a lot of love from the people.
