Born December 9th 1988 in Washington, DC. Mary contracted HIV from her mother at birth. Her mother would succumb to AIDS three years later. Marie was raised by her father and stepmother in Clinton, MD a small town 30 miles outside of Washington DC. Marie wrote her first poem in the 9th grade but it wouldn’t be until she was about 19 years old when she visited the legendary Spit Dat open mic in Washington DC. That visit to Spit Dat inspired her to start perform her poems.

As of now she is in the process of releasing her first book of poetry. Poetry however is not her main focus; poetry will always be a part of her life but Marie wants to be a advocate for people living with HIV. The center piece of her advocacy will be a safe haven providing resources including medical treatment, medicine, and even a place to stay for people living with HIV. Most importantly her guests will receive empathy from a person that has been living with HIV her entire life. Marie says she still deals with her depression and is coming to terms with living with HIV however Marie is happy with life and is not looking at her past but is focused on all the opportunities her future has to offer.
