Joann Cathleen Roberts, also known as “Paradigm”, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She discovered a love for playing instruments at the age of 10 and by 13 she was writing poetry and lyrics. High school marked a significant turning point for Joann when her English teacher, Mr. Young, showed the movie “Slam”. Joann credits the film’s star, Saul Williams, with providing the inspiration to push her writing to the next level.

Her artistic influences include Saul Williams, Lauryn Hill,The Wu Tang Clan, Mos Def, Billy Corgan, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, and Tool. However, she states that her biggest influence is life, and all the pain and lessons in growth that come with it.

She is known for her laid back, mellow stage presence that is complimented by her powerful words. She has passions for aviation, philosophy, astronomy, and physics. She often incorporates such thought and concepts into her poetry. Joann has graced many stages, having had featured shows in Iwakuni, Japan, New York City, and Savannah, Georgia alike. In her free time, Joann likes to do anything involving the outdoors, travel, and meeting people all over the world. She studied Philosophy and Aviation Flight in college, and is a licensed private pilot.
