Old vs. New: The Chronicles of Growth by Tanesha Douglas
Out of Print
Old vs. New: The In August of 2005, she enrolled at the University of Georgia (Athens) and continued to write and perform locally at campus functions, gaining a support base in the process. However, during her sophomore year of college, Douglas decided to take a hiatus from writing and it wasn’t until November of 2008 that Douglas returned to her craft. Half of the poems included in her new chapbook, Old vs. New: The Chronicles of Growth, were produced during this most recent span of her career as a writer. Old vs. New: The Chronicles of Growth marks the beginning of what Douglas hopes to be a long lasting career as a poet and spoken word artist. In the first half of the chapbook Douglas shows her roots as a writer dedicated to the page as a beginning poet with poems like One Who Is Me and Spiritual Renewal. The second half of Old vs. New shows the evolution of her skill most notably in her ability to tell the stories of others. Where many of the poems in The Birth are personal, many of the poems in The Growth prove how Douglas, now, in her writings, is able to relate and speak to a wider audience by reaching outside of herself and into the lives of others to create poetry that touches the reader on a personal level. Most importantly, the sixteen poems included in Old vs. New: The Chronicles of Growth serve as introduction to Tanesha J. Douglas, a poet who continues to evolve and grow on a daily basis.
